sometimes it seemed the sun was gone
all smiles had turned to grey
as if the travails laboured long
defined the waking day
along the path to being more
the only one i knew
who waited at the narrow door
and watched me as i grew
a texture unto azure sky
an ever giving hand
forget the times we wondered why
or when the truth would land
so squarely on our raised heads
these earthen ties don't last
they become parables instead
that we outgrow the past
and unto sun we're looking still
made more for all we've learned
free them through our force of will
that pasts may finally burn
away across the firmament
ignited as they part
ways with we meet each day
full of hope and full of heart
there is no other way
a tribute unto all you are
a champion cut so deep
become a constant star
'neath which your three sons sleep
